We’ve had so much fun at our holiday clubs over the past week. I’ve been super impressed by the effort put into all the different tasks. The children have all given 100% and I hope they’ve enjoyed themselves as much as I have.

On Wednesday morning I was at Young Minds Matter in Pontefract and the children completed several different builds with the Lego WeDo2 kits. Some of the younger children created a carousel build and then worked out how to attach the motor and sensor, and then programmed it to make it rotate automatically. The older children had a ‘Tug of war’ with their robots and investigated the pulling force.

On Thursday afternoon I was in Garforth for our first holiday club of summer 2023. The children created some amazing ‘Stop Motion Animations’ using the ‘Stop Motion Studio’ App. This app can be downloaded for FREE and I highly recommend it. They all had lots of fun writing their own stories and then created their own Lego animations. This is the animation created by Verity, Evelyn and Jasmine. Not bad for their first attempt at Stop Motion Studio! Well done girls, brilliant work!

On Friday afternoon I was in Tingley for another holiday club. It was so nice to see so many children from the local area attending for their first time. I love to see their little faces light up when they get their builds to move for the first time and realise that they can actually control the motors speed and direction of rotation. We also had several of the older children attending the holiday club on Friday who have been coming to my after-school clubs for a while now. They continued to impress me with their Lego free builds and had lots of fun with the new Lego Spike Prime kit. I can’t wait to see what they design next as they continue to develop their coding skills using the new electronic components included in these kits such as the colour sensor and touch sensor. At the holiday club William and Arron built a fully functioning ‘Safety Deposit Box’ and then created their own program to control when and how it could be unlocked, along with some brilliant accompanying sound effects! Well done boys, you certainly inspired the younger children at the club by demonstrating what can be achieved with the new kit.

If you think your children would like to attend one of our holiday clubs this summer then you’ll have to be quick as there are now limited spaces available for the remaining dates. I’ll be back in Tingley again at West Ardsley Methodist Church on Monday 21st August, 9am-12pm and then again on Tuesday 22nd August, 1pm-4pm. Tickets can be purchased via the links below:
